Aeolian Fan Harp

The Aeolian Fan Harp is a musical instrument crafted by Dust Bowl Guitars, designed to produce a unique and ethereal sound. Inspired by the traditional Greek wind harp, this instrument is a 12-stringed, non-fretted hollow body instrument that incorporates a 120mm PC fan under the strings near the bridge to produce its own wind. Unlike other wind harps, it uses steel-wound strings and electric guitar pickups, giving it a unique tonal quality that is akin to a baritone electric guitar when plucked while the fan is off.

However, when the fan is powered up, the Aeolian Fan Harp produces a steady and lush drone that serves as the backdrop for the real magic. By bowing, scraping, glissing or exciting the strings, players can create extraordinary cinematic clusters, sound effects and undulating drones that are truly mesmerizing. The instrument was built over three months with great attention to detail, resulting in a truly exceptional and immersive musical experience.

The Aeolian Fan Harp has been sampled in remarkable detail by Soundiron contributor John Valasis and Konstantinos Sakkas, making it an ideal choice for musicians looking for a unique and captivating sound for their music.
